Nashville Bound

Lyrics and music by Francis C. Parker, Jr. 9/90

It was three o'clock in the morning
When I finally made up my mind
It was time for me to take a chance
And leave my past behind
So I packed my life in a frayed ruck sack
And I grabbed my flat top box
And my notebook filled with rhyme.

Chorus

I'd be Nashville bound on the morning coach
Taking a chance to make my mark on Sixteenth Avenue
Nashville bound.

Paying my tab at the night clerks' desk
A clock chimed half past four.
Winding my way down the blackened street
I stopped at an all night drug store
Downing a black cup of coffee
I wrote a few more lines in my book
Thinking' soon I'd be on my way. (chorus)

The sun awoke over the railway station
Just as soon as I arrived.
Bleary-eyed commuters pasted
On their way to their nine to five's
I wondered if I'd beat
Their time card blues
On Sixteenth Avenue. (chorus)

It was a little past nine that morning
When I left my past behind.
Headed for fame and fortune?
I didn't know, but I knew I had to try.
I picked a song on my flat top box
Then I wrote another verse.
Rocking' gently down the line.

I'd be Nashville bound on the morning coach
Taking a chance to make my mark on Sixteenth Avenue

I was Nashville bound, Nashville bound.
